DAVID COPPERFIELD

CHARLES DICKENS

David Copperfield is another children's classic created in a perfect Dickensian manner. Holding an unpublished full name, 'The Personal History, Adventures, Experience, and Observation of David Copperfield the Younger of Blunderstone Rookery' this children's classic book is the eighth and one of the best from Dickens.
Marking a turning point of his own life, his very own favorite, David Copperfield is a beautiful masterpiece delivered in easy language.
I read the book as a young mind and as in most of the Dickens books, David Copperfield, the protagonist, is an orphan. The twists and turns, the growing journey of David, the experiences both dark and shiny gained by him right from the young age of ten, are nothing less than a roller coaster ride. Orphaned David faces multiple hardships and encounters several struggles caused by a variety of events and people. The first one being his stepfather. On his journey, David encounters many dark experiences like poverty and loneliness, yet continues to walk in search of light. Dickens has given birth to many beautiful antagonists as well. Many characters have carried bags full of real-life teachings. The best fact about the book is, David Copperfield is not an entire fiction. Dickens has stolen umpteen events and experiences from his own life, his childhood. Hence it's a veiled autobiography, which makes it remarkable and one of a kind; the touch of reality merged beautifully with fiction. Dickens has also captured the feel of young love and the ups and downs of life.
The book is a comedy and not a tragedy. It tells us about earning contentment and penetrating our way through the rock hard melancholy as David finds success, fame, true love, and joy by perseverance. The book offers the idea of not giving up and working hard, of facing the dark times. It tells us the universe pays sincere efforts and showers smiles.

My ratings for the book- 4/5

' Best friends ' by Jacqueline Wilson is one special children's novel that I fell in love with as an early teenager. It was published in the year 2004. I got to lay my hands on it at the age of thirteen when I found it gaping at me in my school library. The book had an attractive blue color with sweet illustrations on it that got me craving for it.

And The Mountains Echoed
Khalid Hosseini
July 2020

Hosseini's first two books - ' The kite runner' and 'A thousand splendid suns' have undoubtedly made their place in the best seller list. A teller of tales as Hosseini has been, 'And the mountains echoed' is a beautiful journey in the spider web of tales, and to be honest, my very first one with Hosseini. The story focuses on the beauty and innateness of the sibling relation of Abdullah and Pari and blends you on. I called it a spiderweb of tales
