The very popular and one of the most loved books, The Immortals of Meluha by Amish
Tripathi , was my first mythological fiction, as well as it's the first part of
Shiva
Trilogy, and it's not surprising that it has undoubtedly captured a place to my favourites list.
Amish takes you back in time to narrate a tale, that will climb up to and in your heart and make
it
a home. This tale tells us about Shiva, whose own karma, generous nature and a heart big enough
to
fit the entire universe makes him a Mahadev, our Mahadev. Amish has magnificently crafted the
character of Shiva and lets us walk with him through the entire journey.
Shiva, the protagonist is shaped with a soul of never-ending kindness, a historical valour and
leadership nature, a life of virtues and an unusual mind. The ability to bring a change is what
makes Shiva a strong character, but at the same time, Amish has sprinkled him with uncertainty,
melancholy, prickly guilt, haunting questions and love, which makes him as human as us.
The book carries a number of well built static characters, each of them perfectly serving to
Amish's
purpose. He takes us around a place which is ancient and modern at the same time and tries his
best
to sow suspense in our minds throughout this book.
The story also talks much about the Varna system, ( the caste system of India), about the glory
of
Lord Ram and his laws, it talks about a beautiful love story of Shiva and princess Sati, who is
created with equal majesty. This book is a blend of an outstanding story with mind-blowing
philosophies. Amish will surely make you ponder on a bunch of vital questions with this book.
So if you are a fan of mythology and fiction, hop on with Amish for a wonderful and adventurous
ride
to the land of Meluhans.
My rating for the book 4/5
And The Mountains Echoed
Khaled Hosseini
July 2020
Hosseini's first two books - ' The kite runner' and 'A
thousand splendid suns' have
undoubtedly made their place in the best seller list. A teller of tales as
Hosseini
has been,
'And the mountains echoed' is a beautiful journey in the spider web of tales,
and to be honest, my very first one with Hosseini.
The story focuses on the beauty and innateness of the sibling relation of
Abdullah
and Pari and
blends you on. I called it a spiderweb of tales
Before I
Die
Jenny Downham
Aug 2020
Before I die, by jenny Downham is a young adult, published
in
2007, and obviously an
internationally
bestselling book.
This book is described as " heartbreaking and devastating, yet sparkling with
life."
I believe,
there cannot exist a better description of this book in such few words.
The name of the book gives a sheer idea of what it could be about. But no, don't
be
in a hurry
to
judge a book by its name. As I said about, 'the fault in our stars', this book
too
is not about
death, its about life.
